A right to health is only as real as the system that delivers it. Shamseya works on that system. We carry evidence from the ground into the rooms where decisions are made, and carry those decisions back out in language people can use. Our work since 2012 has covered access to health coverage, women friendly services, disability services mapping, palliative and end-of-life care, early childhood development and health budget transparency, and our advocacy has ranged from the Universal Health Insurance Law to insulin pump coverage for children. The guides and assessment tools we build are designed to stay in use after the projects that funded them have closed. We are a multidisciplinary team of specialists working with more than 450 community field workers and volunteers across Egypt and the region, and with local organisations in the governorates where we work. Our starting point is that the people closest to a problem are best placed to help solve it. Shamseya was founded in 2012 and operates on a non-profit basis, reinvesting its revenues in its community work.
