Summary

In South Asia, over 64 million children live with moderate-to-severe disabilities, yet early childhood services remain virtually nonexistent in low-income area. MAITS unique training model has already helped vulnerable children leap forward, achieving a 90.9% improvement in independent toileting and reducing life-threatening respiratory issues by boosting zero-chest-infection rates from 44.1% to 89.2%. Your support funds life changing improvements for disabled children and their carers.

Challenge

Over 64 million children in South Asia live with moderate-to-severe disabilities. In Pakistan, 1 million disabled children face a virtually nonexistent care system in low-income areas. The first 3-5 years are a "golden window" for development; without early intervention, children face lifelong exclusion. Yet, fewer than 500 therapists serve Pakistan's 240M+ population. Isolated parents are left entirely on their own to battle stigma, poverty, and an absolute lack of guidance.

Solution

This programme brings vital early intervention directly to low-income families. By training local community health workers and parents in community-based rehabilitation, we build lasting support from the ground up. Through intensive 3 and 5-day workshops, parents learn practical techniques side-by-side with their children. Trusted health workers then provide fortnightly home visits to coach families, track child milestones, and build independence in essential daily living skills.

Long-Term Impact

MAITS has a global track record of training 8,000+ people across 24 countries, reaching 1.5M children. This project delivers permanent long-term impact. Safe feeding and positioning techniques saw children with zero chest infections rise from 44.1% to 89.2%. A 90.9% improvement in toileting and 78.5% in dressing/bathing was evidenced. Parents gained tools to move from isolation to confident caregivers. The programme builds a permanent community care network.
