We would like to sincerely thank the GlobalGiving family for your continued support to Pooja and Kiran. Your support has enabled them to remain focused on their education while navigating circumstances that could otherwise have disrupted their academic journeys.

Today, both continue to work towards their respective goals, with Pooja preparing for the next step in her education and Kiran strengthening her academic foundation and exploring her future aspirations. Your generosity has given them the space and support to continue learning, make plans for their future, and work towards greater independence.

Pooja’s Progress Update:

Pooja has recently joined a gym, which has become a positive part of her routine. Staying physically active helps her remain fit, both physically and mentally, and gives her a way to manage the stress she is experiencing. Although it takes up some of her time, she feels that maintaining her physical and mental well-being is important while navigating the challenges around her.

The past few months have been challenging for Pooja, as personal and family circumstances continue to create stress and uncertainty around her education and future. She is making an effort to stay connected with her studies by regularly reaching out to friends for study material and academic support and studying whenever she is able to. Last year, she had made considerable progress academically and scored around 70% in one semester, which gave her confidence in her ability to do well through consistent effort. She hopes to regain that focus and continue making progress in her final year.

As she looks beyond her graduation, Pooja is clear about wanting to continue her education. Her dream is to pursue Masters in Sociology. At the same time, she understands the importance of becoming financially independent and is prepared to take up employment after completing her Bachelor degree, if required, while continuing her studies alongside work.

Pooja is aware that the present phase has not gone as she had hoped, but she does not want these circumstances to determine the course of her future. She wants to learn from her experiences, complete her graduation and work towards becoming financially independent while keeping her aspiration of pursuing higher education alive.

Kiran’s Progress Update:

Kiran has become more comfortable and confident in her academic journey over the past year. She recently appeared for her first periodic tests and feels that they have gone well. Compared to earlier, she has seen a noticeable improvement in her approach towards her studies. The fear and uncertainty she once experienced about whether she would be able to manage her education have reduced, and she is now able to study with greater confidence and interest.

Alongside her Bachelor of Art studies, Kiran has also started reading academic books published by Government to strengthen her basic understanding of different subjects. She believes that developing a strong foundation will be useful if she decides to prepare for competitive examinations in the future and will give her greater opportunities to pursue her career goals.

For a period, Kiran was unable to participate actively in sports due to health-related difficulties and had to spend some time at home. She has now started attending regular yoga sessions. She feels that yoga is helping her improve both her physical and mental well-being and has made her feel better overall. Once her health is fully restored, she hopes to become more involved in sports again and work towards achieving better results in both academics and games.

Kiran’s growing confidence and willingness to invest in both her education and well-being reflect the progress she has made. She is gradually developing a clearer sense of what she wants for her future and is making efforts to build the academic foundation and personal confidence needed to pursue those goals.

Future expectations:

For Pooja and Kiran, the past year has been about staying committed to their education while also finding ways to look after their well-being. Pooja is in the final year of her bachelor’s degree and hopes to pursue a Master’s in Sociology, while Kiran has grown more confident in her studies and is strengthening her academic foundation. Both are also making time for physical activity, with Pooja attending the gym and Kiran practising yoga to support their physical and mental well-being. Your continued support will be crucial in helping Pooja pursue her postgraduate studies while enabling Kiran to complete her graduation and continue working towards her academic and career goals.

A Year of Growth, Learning, and Determination

Your contribution has done more than fund their education, it has provided stability, opportunity, and the confidence to pursue their aspirations. Today, both scholars remain enrolled in university and continue to make steady progress in their academic journeys. They are focused on their studies, committed to their goals, and determined to build independent futures. Your generosity is helping them stay on course and create brighter opportunities for themselves.

Pooja’s Progress Update:

Pooja is currently in the final year of her Bachelors of Arts at a reputed university in Rajasthan. The past year has continued to be emotionally challenging, as she faces persistent pressure from family members to get married. With both parents no longer alive, her relatives believe that marriage would help settle family responsibilities. Financial constraints within the household have further increased this pressure, often leaving Pooja feeling anxious about her future.

Currently, Pooja is on her summer vacation and is staying in Mumbai with her elder sister. During this period, she has been facing additional pressure from her sister, who is engaged in sex work, to join the sex work and contribute financially towards her brother’s wedding. Despite these challenges, Pooja remains committed to completing her education and building an independent life. She continues to stand firm in her decision to prioritize her studies and has not allowed these pressures to affect her academic performance.

As she enters her final year, ensuring a smooth transition into employment has become critical. Securing sustainable livelihood opportunities will help Pooja support herself and her family financially while reducing her vulnerability to exploitation and pressure to enter sex work. With continued educational support, career guidance, and mentoring, Pooja is steadily working towards a more secure and self-reliant future.

Kiran’s* Progress Update:

Kiran is currently in the second year of her Bachelors of Arts at a reputed university in Rajasthan. Over the past year, she has continued to demonstrate resilience and determination in her educational journey. Having overcome the self-doubt and adjustment challenges she faced when first joining the institution, Kiran has grown into a confident and focused student who is comfortable navigating the university environment.

While she initially found some new subjects challenging, particularly Public Administration, she has gradually developed a better understanding of the coursework and continues to adapt well to the academic demands of higher education.

Currently on her summer vacation, Kiran is staying at home and using her time productively by attending free online classes through YouTube to further strengthen her spoken English and general knowledge. Despite her father’s dominant and controlling behaviour, Kiran remains committed to her education. Living away from home for most of the year has helped her continue her studies and avoid the risk of being drawn into sex work, a pathway that has affected other women in her community. With continued educational support and guidance, Kiran is well-positioned to build on her progress and create greater opportunities for herself in the years ahead.

Education as Protection: Your Kept Two Girls safe!

Your timely intervention did more than fund education, it created safety, stability, and an alternative to circumstances that could have pushed them towards exploitation. Today, both scholars remain committed to their studies and are progressing steadily in their academic journeys. Your support is helping them stay enrolled, focused, and determined to shape their own futures with dignity.

Pooja’s* Progress Update:

Pooja is currently in her second year of BA from a reputed university in Rajasthan. The past year has been emotionally challenging, as she continues to face pressure from extended family to enter the sex work. With both parents no longer present, relatives believe marriage would reduce the family’s responsibilities. Without educational support, situations like these can increase vulnerability and limit choices.

However, Pooja remains steadfast in her decision to complete her education first. Despite ongoing pressures, she has ensured that her studies are not affected. She is maintaining steady academic performance and actively participates in extracurricular activities including horse riding, Kabaddi, and cultural programs. She recently stood first in a college quiz competition, reflecting both her academic focus and growing confidence. Her long-term aspiration is to join the police force and build financial independence after graduation.

Kiran’s* Progress Update:

Kiran, now in her first year of BA from a reputed university in Rajasthan, has shown remarkable personal growth. When she first joined the institution, she struggled with self-doubt and adjusting to the competitive academic environment. Over time, through disciplined study habits and consistent effort, she gained confidence and improved her academic performance significantly.

Despite facing personal challenges that required her to temporarily pause her studies, she resumed with determination. In her final school examinations, she scored 68%. She has now transitioned into her BA program and continues to work steadily, adapting well to new subjects and academic expectations.

Our Reflections

Pooja and Kiran’s journeys reflect resilience, courage, and the power of timely support. Education, in their context, is not simply about earning a degree, it is a protective pathway that reduces vulnerability and opens doors to independence and informed life choices.
